Jakarta – The head of the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), Anhar Riza Antariksawan introduced the results of the latest BATAN R & D in the form of 2 varieties of superior soybean plants planted in dry land, named Kemuning 1 and Kemuning 2. With the release of these two varieties, so far the number of superior soybean varieties produced by BATAN reaches 12 varieties.

“Soybean Kemuning 1 and Kemuning 2 can adapt well in dry land compared to other soybean plants and also have a larger seed size,” Anhar said in a press conference at the Agricultural Building, Center for Isotope and Radiation Application (PAIR) – BATAN, Nuclear Facilities Pasar Jumat, South Jakarta, Wednesday (17/07).

According to Anhar, nuclear science and technology research in agriculture and food is one of the BATAN R&D that can be proud of so far. “Therefore, R&D in this field will continue to increase superior varieties, especially food crops,” he said.

“In the future BATAN will continue to innovate, so that more and more BATAN R&D products can benefit the community and have an impact on improving the socio-economic development of the Indonesian people,” he continued.

But what needs to be an important concern for BATAN is its socialization, there are still many people who do not yet know where and how to obtain BATAN R&D products. “Collaboration efforts continue to be built between BATAN with the Ministry of Agriculture and with the local government to facilitate the dissemination of BATAN R&D products, particularly in agriculture to reach the community,” said Anhar.

On this occasion, BATAN Researcher, Yuliasti explained that Kemuning soybean varieties besides being resistant to dry land also had several advantages including high productivity, for example, 2.87 tons / hectare for Kemuning 1 and 2.92 tons / hectare for Kemuning 2, shorter plant height so it is not easy to fall, has a high protein content, large seed size, and savory taste.

“Soybean Kemuning 1 and Kemuning 2 can adapt well in dry land in Indonesia. With a larger seed size and can compete with imported soybeans, Kemuning 1 and Kemuning 2 soybeans produce tempeh that is more savory compared to imported soybeans,” Yuliasti said.

The word Kemuning, according to Yuliasti, was taken from the abbreviation of Dry-Drought Mutant Soybean which is a soybean variety that has been improved by Panderman varieties by utilizing the radiation mutation technique.
