Chicago – Excellent Human Resources (HR) and Advanced Indonesia is one of the Indonesian visions in the next development of 2019-2024. In pursue of that, MORTHE Indonesia and University of Chicago (UChicago) United State of America are taking an important part in developing Indonesian young generation as the backbone of our nation.
Therefore, witnessed by the Minister of RTHE Mohamad Nasir, an MoU was signed between the Secretary General of MORTHE Ainun Na’im and UChicago President Robert J. Zimmer, on Wednesday (18/9/2019). The MoU is intended to enrich knowledge and researches of the young Indonesian doctoral candidates through Garuda Academic of Excellence (Garuda ACE).
Garuda ACE Program is an intensive two-years capacity building program for Indonesian students (college teacher/researcher/young professionals), with the direct guidance from the UChicago Professors and researchers, in aiming the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for their PhD program in UChicago or in other reputable universities.
The collaboration with UChicago covers three things:
– Collaboration program in education with colleges and universities in Indonesia.
– Research, learning, and teaching program.
– Other programs in the future in accordance with mutual interest.
The implementation of Garuda ACE in the first two years will be started in Computer Science area and other related areas such as Bioinformatics, Computational Science, and Data Science, which is expected to develop into other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) sciences.
Also attending the MoU signing were the Director General for Science, Technology, and Higher Education Resources Ali Ghufron Mukti, the Head of the Partnership and Public Communication Bureau Nada Marsudi, Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago Made Sentana Jaya, Board of Trustee member Tandean Rustandy, Associate Professor of UChicago Haryadi Gunawi, and Manager of Special Projects, Global Initiatives & Strategy UChicago Marie Bejarano (UChicago). After witnessing the signing, Minister of RTHE Mohamad Nasir also did a lab tour and a friendly meeting with the Indonesian students in UChicago.
On the meeting, Ministry of RTHE gave a speech about the Indonesian Excellent HR program and the program plans for Garuda ACE implementation as a breakthrough program to create excellent Indonesian cadets as the nation’s cadre and future leaders.
Minister Nasir stated that the Indonesian students in UChicago are very lucky to be able to get such opportunity to continue their study in the United State of America. He then advised them to absorb the knowledges they get there and hopefully one day they will implement them in various sectors of development in Indonesia.
