Following the bilateral meeting in Guiyang, the Guizhou Province at the People Republic of China (PR China) last year, 30 August 2017, HE Mr. Sun Zhigang, the Governor of Ghuizhou Province jointly opened the 10th ASEAN China Education Cooperation Week at Shang Rila Hotel Indonesia on 20/06/2017.

The other speakers were Mrs Nada Marsudi, Head Bureau of Cooperation and Public Communication, The Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mr Wang Fengyou, General Director of Ghuizhou Provincial Department of Education, HE Mr Xu Bu, Ambassador of Mission of the PR China to ASEAN, Dr Gatot Hari Priowirjanto, the Director of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Dr Roy Anthonius, Vice Rector of Maranatha Christian University, Miss Ida and Miss Rita Indonesian students representatives.

In her speech, Nada Marsudi welcome the exhibition as she said that there is also a motto in Indonesia -‘Belajarlah sampai ke Negeri China’. So many of young Indonesian students also prioritize PR China universities as their targetted further study.

Nada also explained that since 2011, there have been close relationships between Indonesia and PR China as 10 (ten) agreements were signed in the field of science technology and higher education (STHE). Even 9 (nine) of them were signed under the leadership of HE Minister Mohamad Nasir. Those are related with higher education (HE) in general and science technology (ST) umbrella agreement, mutual recognition of academic degrees and qualification in HE, joint laboratory in Biotechnology, technology transfer center, scientist exchange program, scholarship in HE, Joint Laboratory on High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor.

HE Sun Zhigang wished to see more Indonesian to study in Ghuizhou Province, therefore he brought around 20 Chinese universities in the exhibition. Dr Gatot H Priowirjanto Director of SEAMEO explained that around 1500 scholarships were given to Indonesians in the past years, but he wished to see more Indonesian students to study in the Guizhou Province.

The ceremony was ended by witnessing the scholarships which are awarded to some Indonesian representatives and the signing of MoU between University of Makassar and its Chinese partner.

In the future, both Countries are convinced that more bilateral and regional cooperations in STHE could be strengthened.
