The availability of Student Visa for foreign students have already been awaited quite long, ever since the Directorate General of Higher Education is still governed by Ministry of Education and Culture. On Thursday, January 21, 2015 a Memorandum of Understanding finally was signed between the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) to accommodate such purpose.

The signing suggest a milestone for the development of Higher Education in Indonesia and service by Ministry of Justice and Human Rights through the Directorate General of Immigration in providing an integrated service and visa requirements for foreign students who wishes to study in Indonesian universities.

“The positive influence through availability of Student Visa will not only be experienced by student exchange activities, but also research activities done in collaboration by Indonesian universities with associate universities abroad,” said Minister Nasir in his speech.

The presence of foreign students at Indonesian universities is very important because it suggest whether Indonesian universities has become an objective and reference for higher education worldwide. The improvement of quality on higher education in Indonesia is reflected through an increase of international collaboration among universities, either in the form of research, students and lecturer’s exchange, along with astounding services for foreign students.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and Ministry of Justice and Human Rights to provide Learning Permit Service and Indonesian Visa for Foreign Students to study at universities in Indonesia will give a fresh atmosphere in the development of higher education in Indonesia, which is in line with efforts by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education on improving international collaboration and tendency of foreign students attending universities in Indonesia.

“I believe through good collaboration, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education’s desire to surge foreign exchange is achievable. These services can be executed directly,” said Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly.

With the availability of Student Visa for foreign students, it is expected that Indonesia will appeal more in the eyes of foreign students, thus increase their enthusiasm to study at Indonesian universities, which eventually will foster an international atmosphere during academic activities in universities.

Let’s use the Learning Permit Service and Student Visa system to provide an astounding service on behalf of the Republic of Indonesia, in the interest of achieving the Indonesian noble principals. (dts)
