PADANG – Monday (5/9), The Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Mohamad Nasir met with 2000 BIDIKMISI students of Padang State University (UNP), Andalas University (Unand), and amongst other Colleges (PTS) in Regions throughout West Sumatra.
Located in UNP Sports Arena, Nasir had the opportunity to symbolically present the scholarships to 12 BIDIKMISI students and congratulated the 4 most achieved BIDIKMISI students.
According to Rector of UNP, BIDIKMISI program is an outstanding program in providing access to children who are economically disadvantaged in order to study and excel.
“Moreover, most of the children that receive the BIDIKMISI scholarship are smart. Throughout the student competitions, they can showcase their achievement in the race. Great,” said the Rector of UNP Ganefri.
Intan Ahmad, as the Director General in Academics and Education mentioned also in the report that the BIDIKMISI scholarship is present to influenced participation, apart from the academics itself, which is to increase achievements and the academic forecast in higher education. Through the BIDIKMISI scholars, the quality of the higher education also increases. This occur because BIDIKMISI scholars has accomplishment which can be praised (GPA above 3), and capable of improving the achievement or the quality of higher education.
“This is confirmed by the data in 2015 showed that over 51% of BIDIKMISI academics obtain a GPA between 3.0 to 3.5, and more than 28% gain GPA> 3.5, and 0.7% had a 4.0 GPA. This is a very proud achievement,” he said.
According to Menristekdikti Mohamad Nasir during the occasion of meeting with the attending students, BIDIKMISI scholarship is able to make the students managed to achieve their dreams with perseverance and managed to accomplish goals for the future.
“Continue to improve your performance again, after you graduate, opportunities from abroad to continue studying is wide open, which they asked for, and not us. You can do it, you have the capability, the Country will support you,” said Nasir with passion.
Nasir also explained that in 2016, the BIDIKMISI scholarship quota increases from 60,000 to 75,000, whereas the cost of living, Nasir in future will cooperate with the Minister of the Domestic Affair through the Regional Government will help improve the living expenses of BIDIKMISI children. (Dzi)
